Mattress Covers
One of the things that you can do is to make sure that your mattresses are covered. If you seal it off with a mattress cover that completely envelopes your mattress, then bed bugs can't get into the mattress to make a home. They like mattresses because you are a nice meal in the middle of the night when you aren't moving, and they can come out and have some dinner. So, sealing off the mattress will keep your mattress safe from an infestation, and if you already have bed bugs, it can help keep them in the mattress so that they don't spread.
High Heat
Bed bugs are susceptible to high heat. That works in your favor. That's because you can toss things in the dryer and run it through a high heat cycle. That will help get rid of bed bugs and their eggs because it will kill them. If you are worried, you can run everything possible through more than one cycle or combine the dryer usage with something else. For example, if you have children who have stuffed animals, then you might want to make sure that you are being thorough. So, you might run the stuffed animals through one cycle, then seal everything up in garbage bags for a couple of weeks to make sure that there isn't anything left alive, and then run it through another high heat cycle. That can help to make sure that there aren't any bed bugs left in your child's stuffed animals.
Exterminator
Another thing that you can do is to talk to a bed bug exterminator. If you think that you might have bed bugs, they can come in and inspect your house for you. They will tell you if they see any bed bugs. If they do, they can tell you the best way to get rid of them. If you don't have any, the exterminator can tell you some ways to make sure that you are doing everything possible to keep them from invading your home.
