When you have two or more people coming together to pay the rent, you can likely get a nicer apartment than what you would be able to afford on your own. You might be able to get a security deposit or the entire first month of rent waived if you agree to a long-term contract that will keep you in the apartment for 12 months or longer. You might even find a deal where the property owner agrees to no rent hikes for the first several years.
