Some people prefer to live near a busy street because it is "where the action is." It is true that living near a busy street has its benefits; for example, such locations tend to be more secure and maintained than neighborhoods farther from the main streets. However, there are also a few potential drawbacks of living near busy, such as these:
Noise
Depending on how tolerant you are of loud noises, this is one of the most annoying things about living near a busy street. Noise from motor vehicles on the road, pedestrians, cyclists, and even nearby businesses will be reaching your house. This may not be a problem if you are rarely at home or aren't bothered by the noise. However, it can be disastrous if you work from home or if you are one of those people who can't even fall asleep in a noisy area.
Air Pollution
The quality of the air you breathe has a big effect on the quality of your health. For example, particles in the air have been linked to various health ailments, mainly of the respiratory variety. The particles can also aggravate existing health conditions such as asthma.
Unfortunately, living near a busy street will expose you to high levels of air pollution. Smoke from passing cars or dust kicked up by the traffic (human and auto) are some of the major causes of air pollution in busy streets.
Parking Difficulties
There are various reasons why living near the main street will restrict your parking options compared to living in a side street. For one, locations near the main street are usually space-constrained because every business wants a place to operate (due to the high traffic). At the same time, you cannot park extra vehicles on the street if you are right next to a busy street; only those who live on side streets can do this. Therefore, if you have multiple vehicles in your household, you either stay away from the main street or buy a house with a big garage.
Privacy Concerns
Lastly, living next to the main street may also raise some privacy concerns. Main streets tend to be busy with pedestrians and other road users. Everybody passing near your house will just have to glance in your direction to take in whatever is going on in your house. this can be a real concern if you take your privacy seriously.
